English Language Placement Test (ELPT)

To maintain an international standard in higher education the university uses English as the language of instruction in most classes. Every non-native student is required to take the English Language Placement Test (ELPT) at the beginning of the first semester unless in position of a minimum TOEFL score of (500). This test ranks students into four levels (Pass, Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner).

  1. Students receiving a "Pass" do not need to register for any of the English levels (courses).
  2. Students receiving an "Advanced" score are required to register for the Advanced remedial level.
  3. Students receiving an "Intermediate" score are required to register for Intermediate and then Advanced levels.
  4. Students receiving a "Beginner" score should register for all three levels.

Students are encouraged to take English classes in the summer or as early as possible to help them in their other courses. Advanced English is counted as (3) credit hours with a letter grade. Intermediate English is counted as (2) credit hours with a letter grade. No credit hours are given for Beginning English.

 

Credit load limits for English students

Students taking English classes have a limited number of credits that they can take in addition to English. Students in the Beginner level may take (12) additional credits, three of which are a non-scientific. Students in Intermediate level may take (17) additional credits three of which are non-scientific.
